Benefits of Coffee
by Jessie Senglaub, owner Birch & Banyan Coffee
One of the best moments in the morning is your first cup of coffee. That delicious taste and knowing that you’ll soon feel the corresponding jolt of energy.
Do you know what’s even better? Knowing that there are actual health benefits associated with that little mug of happiness.
Now, I’m not a doctor, so it’s important to do your own research and consult medical professionals, but there are several advantages to that routine cup of coffee.
1. Source of Antioxidants
Studies have shown that coffee is the way Americans consume the most antioxidants. These chemicals can reduce inflammation, lower the risk of diabetes, and aid liver function. Antioxidants from coffee are higher than vegetables and fruits, combined.
2. Parkinson’s Control
For Parkinson’s sufferers, heightened caffeine consumption can actually help control involuntary movements, the most common symptom of the disease.
3. Female Friendly
As a women, it’s particularly thrilling to know that coffee helps prevent several conditions that we’re known to develop. These include strokes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and colon cancer.
4. Fat Burning
A little fine print reading in diet research shows that caffeine pops up many diet pills. This is because it’s one of the only known natural fat burning substances, leading to a metabolic rate increase of up to 11% and an increase in oxidation of fatty acids.
5. Nutritional Value
A standard cup of coffee contains between 2-11% of the required faily amount of B vitamins. It also has up to 92 milligrams of potassium, and, since it is made from water, can contribute to proper daily water intake.
Personally, I believe some of the best boosts from coffee to be the kick-start to my daily routine, that inner warmth, and the feeling of my motivation climbing. But it’s nice to know there are some pros in the health column, as well!
